Where Should You Go to the Polish Seaside with Children? The Best Places

How can you plan a seaside holiday with a child, ensuring that every member of the family can relax fully? Which towns on the Polish coast are the most popular with families? Where can you find the best accommodation? With this guide, you’re sure to find your dream destination. We hope you enjoy reading it.

Holidays by the Sea with Children – Which Seaside Destinations Are Best for Children?

Before we move on to the list of the TOP 10 destinations on the Polish coast for family holidays, let’s take a moment to consider what such a holiday might look like. We have two options:

  • either we opt for a resort and accept that it might be a bit crowded, but enjoy the convenience of having ‘everything within easy reach’;
  • or we choose quieter seaside spots for children, which offer an intimate atmosphere but may come with certain limitations – such as the need to travel further or reduced access to attractions.

Neither option is unequivocally better than the other. Our preferences regarding a seaside holiday with a child may change as our little one grows older and their needs evolve.

Sometimes, our choice of accommodation will be more important. What do you choose? A stay in private accommodation, holiday resorts, self-catering apartments or holiday cottages by the sea. It’s never a good idea to book a holiday with children without doing your research first. You’ll find the best accommodation on Heyrent.com.

Where’s the Best Place to Go to the Polish Seaside with Children? Top 10 Destinations

Is it time to start planning a family holiday by the Polish seaside? Let’s take a practical approach to this. Consider the following towns and check out the most interesting attractions in their vicinity.

Where’s the best place to go to the seaside with a child?

Ustronie Morskie

Ustronie Morskie isn’t a large seaside resort, but despite its modest size, it offers families plenty of attractions. Right in the centre, for instance, there’s the Helios complex with indoor swimming pools and water slides. During the summer season, there are also picnics, shows, workshops and themed activities for children.

If you’re planning a family holiday by the sea in Ustronie Morskie, check the current programme of events (you’ll find the schedule on the local council’s website).

Dabki

Dabki is situated between a wide Baltic Sea beach and a lake. Bukowo is a popular spot amongst windsurfers, sailors and water sports enthusiasts. A narrow strip of land separates the beach from the lake. There are equipment hire shops and water sports schools operating at the marina, and during the summer holidays, cruises are organised on the ‘Milka’ boat.

The village’s smaller scale makes it ideal for a peaceful seaside holiday with children (large amusement parks and museums are mainly found in neighbouring towns).

Niechorze

In Niechorze, several family-friendly attractions are situated in the immediate vicinity of the lighthouse. These include the Butterfly House and the Lighthouse Miniature Park. The Coastal Narrow-Gauge Railway also runs through the town. Trains run to Rewal, Trzęsacz and Pogorzelica. The journey between these coastal towns can be exciting in itself.

There is a fishing harbour by the beach. You can learn about the history of coastal crafts and the lives of fishermen by visiting the Museum of Sea Fishing.

Wladyslawowo

Wladyslawowo serves as the gateway to the Hel Peninsula, whilst also offering a wide range of activities for families. In the fishing harbour, you can see fishing boats and the equipment used by the fishermen. Nearby stretches a wide beach with supervised bathing areas.

The Fisherman’s House with its observation tower is Wladyslawowo’s most popular attraction, but there are many more things in the town to make your family holiday enjoyable. You’ll find details below.

The Tri-City

The Tri-City is, in fact, three different destinations. So why are we listing them together as seaside destinations for children? Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia are connected by the SKM railway line, which runs every 10–15 minutes and allows you to travel between the cities with ease.

  • In Gdansk, you can combine exploring the historic centre with a visit to the Hevelianum, the Oliwa Zoo or a galleon cruise to Westerplatte.
  • Gdansk is home to attractions linked to science and the sea: the Gdansk Aquarium, the Experyment Science Centre and Kolibki Adventure Park.
  • Sopot rounds off the list with its pier, cruises on the ‘Pirat’ boat, a water park and Grodzisko, featuring a reconstruction of an ancient fortified settlement.

Each of the three cities also offers access to the beach:

  • Gdańsk’s beaches (in Brzeźno and Jelitkowo) are situated alongside extensive recreational areas.
  • In Gdynia, the coastal route leads towards the cliff at Orłowo.
  • Sopot’s beach is adjacent to the resort centre and Poland’s longest wooden pier.

For a complete seaside holiday with a child in the Tri-City, it’s worth booking at least five days: 2–3 for Gdansk, 1–2 for Gdynia and 1–2 for Sopot.

Swinoujscie

Swinoujscie is spread across 44 islands. The area is very extensive, so it’s a good idea to check transport links and journey times between attractions before you start exploring.

The town is characterised by a wide beach with a gentle slope into the sea and a long promenade that links up with the route leading to the German seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin.

A distinctive symbol of the city is Poland’s tallest lighthouse (68 metres). From the terrace, you can see the sandy beaches of Miedzyzdroje, the cliff-lined coast of Wolin Island, the gas terminal and the German seaside resorts.

The town’s history is linked to a Prussian fortification system known as the Swinoujscie Fortress. This is a very interesting attraction for older children. Fort Gerhard can be visited as part of a short military training session – the group is led by a guide in uniform. The fort can only be reached by boat. For younger children, a visit to Baltic Park Molo might be more fun – a water park with an artificial wave for surfing, a themed Spray Park in the style of a pirate island, and a slide area.

Miedzyzdroje

The town centre of Miedzyzdroje centres around the pier, the promenade and the Avenue of Stars. It’s worth noting that the resort borders directly on the Wolin National Park. This makes it an excellent starting point if you’re wondering where to go to the Polish seaside with children, so that you can enjoy the comforts of a big town whilst also having plenty of opportunities to plan outdoor activities.

What Should You Pack for a Seaside Holiday with a Child?

Where’s a good place to go to the seaside? “There”, where nothing will take you by surprise – and that depends not on where you’re staying, but on how you pack. Remember to take:

  • your documents,
  • any long-term medication,
  • a hat,
  • comfortable shoes for your little one,
  • favourite toys,
  • a water bottle,
  • a light blanket,
  • a rucksack to pack the essentials for sightseeing,
  • a small first-aid kit with the basics,
  • the ‘plus one’ rule when packing clothes – if you’re going for 5 days, pack 5 pairs of socks ‘plus one’.

Take note of what’s provided at your accommodation. If you’re just heading to the seaside for a weekend with the children, the thought of packing the car to the brim is certainly not a pleasant one.

Before you book your chosen accommodation, it’s worth making sure that you’ll have everything you need available on site. Many comfortable rooms are equipped with toys, board games, travel cots, potties, non-slip mats and children’s tableware.

What Sort of Seaside Accommodation Should a Family with Children Choose?

Once you’ve chosen your destination, it’s time to look for accommodation. Don’t assume that the booking process will be yet another hassle. If you use a tried-and-tested search engine, everything will go quickly and securely. On Heyrent.com, you can browse available family-friendly options.

For a family holiday on the Baltic Sea, it’s best to book a well-equipped apartment or holiday home. This gives you privacy, space and often additional amenities (including access to a balcony, garden or a dedicated parking space). On Heyrent, you’ll find information about the facilities in a separate section. Everything is clearly presented and leaves no room for doubt.

How and where to go to the seaside with children? Cheaply and to a high standard? It is possible. It’s worth looking in smaller towns or outside the centres of the largest resorts.

Summary

Ready for a holiday by the Polish seaside? If you’ve chosen one of the destinations listed above, you certainly won’t have to choose between sunbathing and enjoying the local attractions. Remember that the best memories from a trip are made up of emotions and time spent together.
