Exotic Destinations In September – Where To Go on Holiday Abroad In September?
When planning a holiday in September by the Indian Ocean, bear in mind the varying weather conditions. The tropics aren’t always sunny. Zanzibar and Bali are in their dry season, whilst in the Maldives and Sri Lanka you should expect rainfall.
Where should we go on holiday in September if we’re dreaming of a truly exotic destination?
Zanzibar
Paje and Jambiani lie on the east coast of Zanzibar, along which a coral reef stretches. Nungwi is situated at the northern tip of the island and is famous for its beaches, where the characteristic tides are less noticeable. Inland, cloves, vanilla and cinnamon are cultivated. Zanzibar owes its nickname ‘Spice Island’ to these crops.
Bali
The south of the island (around Canggu and Uluwatu) is all about surfing and nightlife. Ubud lies inland amongst rice terraces – it is much quieter there. Many people split their holiday into two parts and change hotels halfway through their stay to experience the different sides of Bali.
The Maldives
September falls during the wetter part of the year. It is not the peak season for island holidays, as sunny spells can alternate with heavy downpours and prolonged overcast conditions. During the monsoon season, plankton blooms can reduce underwater visibility. In this case, you could say it’s a ‘trade-off’, as this phenomenon in the Baa Atoll area increases the chances of encountering large schools of manta rays and, occasionally, whale sharks.
Seychelles
Of the more than 100 islands in the archipelago, tourists mainly visit three – Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Ferries run between them frequently enough that you can easily visit the most popular destinations during a single trip.
Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka, it’s easy to combine relaxing on idyllic beaches with exploring temples, ancient towns and tea plantations. One of the island’s most famous attractions is the train journey from Kandy to Ella – the route winds through beautiful mountains and green valleys.

Summary
September certainly doesn’t mark the end of the holiday season – it simply pushes it further south. It’s up to you how far you intend to go. If you’ve still got a few days left in your holiday allowance, it’s worth spending them soaking up the sun. Autumn can wait
